Pyramid shaped building.

For 20 years, the tallest “hotel” was a 105-story pyramid shaped building.

Ryugyong Hotel is a skyscraper located in North Korea. It is most notable for its distinct pyramid shape. It is also sometimes called the 105 building sinceit is 105 stories tall. It remained uncompleted for many years because the fall of communism had left resources for the project unable to be bought.  Its construction
is very rooted in the Cold War, and it was actually build as a response to the completion of what was the tallest hotel at the time, Westin Stamford Hotel in Singapore. The Ryugyong Hotel surpassed the height ofthe Westin, but lack of resources left it uncompleted without windows or furniture.
The hotel was supposed to be open in the summer of 1989 for the 13th WorldFestival of Youth and Students, but it actually didn’t reach its full height until 1992, and it was at that point that the construction lacked resources. Despite the building’s failings, it was finally finished in 2012. Now though, it has been surpassed in height by the Rose Tower. It really only ever was the tallest hotel if an unoccupied building counts as a hotel.
