A news helicopter has captured grislyfootage of an alligator devouring the body of a plane crash victim.

The chopper was flying over the wreckage of the single-engine Cessna 152 in a swampy area of the Florida Everglades as the fearsome reptile ate the body.

The plane crashed around seven miles west of city of Homestead, the Federal Aviation 
Administration (FAA) said.

• The FAA confirmed the pilot was the only person on board but his name has not been released.
